Cranberry Orange Smoothie

Ahhh! the goodness of cranberries and oranges together in a refreshing morning smoothie.

Cranberries Orange

Cranberries are, as most of you know, high in vitamin C.  They are also a good source of fiber, manganese, vitamin K, and vitamin E.  They have 5 types of phytonutrients that are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties.

Cranberries help protect against Urinary Tract Infections, they have anti-inflammatory benefits for your cardiovascular and digestive systems, and have even shown the ability to lower your risk of periodontal disease.

These pretty little red fruits have also been shown to help you lose weight, improve mental health, relieve skin conditions, and help you look younger.

Try adding some to a morning smoothie.  Here is what I threw in my Vitamix this morning.

Ingredients

1/2 cup frozen cranberries
1 orange, peeled
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
dash of cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
a few ice cubes
*extra add ins (optional) – 2 spoons of hemp seeds and a half scoop of protein powder

Last night I made my tropical tart recipe (you can find it under recipes on this website) and I substituted the mango with warm apple cranberry topping.  I simply put chopped apple, fresh cranberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a little agave syrup in a pan and cooked it for a few minutes……mmmm a great Fall dessert.
