Beets!

They are a beautiful rich red color and have lots of health benefits.  Did you know that they are a great energy source and contain magnesium, calcium, iron and phosphorous?  They also contain vitamins A, C, and niacin.  They have folic acid (great for healing or for pregnant women).  They can even lower your blood pressure.

Studies have also shown that beets can guard against cancer and they help protect your body against heart disease.  Beets have been shown to cleanse the colon and your blood.  They help strengthen your gallbladder and liver.

Like the feeling you get from eating chocolate?  Well, beets contain tryptophan which relaxes the mind and creates a sense of well-being, just like chocolate.

You can consume beets many different ways, but here is a great, easy to make, raw beet recipe that ensures you get all those great vitamins and nutrients without cooking any of them away.  If you don’t think you are a beet lover, give this recipe a try, you may surprise yourself.
