Soda is a vice to many people.  I hear it all the time, “I don’t like coffee, I’m a soda drinker”.  When I say why not be a water drinker, I get a look like I’m crazy.  A typical response is that giving up my soda for many is like giving up their right arm.  But there are many reasons why you should give up the habit (or addiction in some cases).

A study at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio found that diet soda causes a blood sugar spike that may inhibit the signal that tells you when you’re full.  So much for that “diet”.  You actually gain weight from drinking diet soda.  Two different studies at the University of Texas showed that those who drank two or more diet sodas a day had an increase of 500 percent greater waist circumference than those of non-users.

Diet soda lowers your pH levels, causing acne.  It’s extremely acid-forming and will take away your skins healthy glow and radiance.

The Aspartame in diet sodas can alter your mood and really contribute negatively to those with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders.  Aspartame is also listed on the EPA list of potentially dangerous chemicals contributing to neurotoxicity right under Arsenic!  Mind blowing and altering isn’t it?

Diet soda causes diabetes and heart disease!  Period.  The journal of General Internal Medicine has confirmed this.  Why would anyone want to risk this?

Diet soda can also make your kidneys sluggish.  The Harvard Nurse’s Study found a 30% drop in kidney function with just two servings a day.

CANCER!  This one always hits home for me.  Aspartame contains three well-recognized neurotoxins.  Studies have linked its use to lymphoma and tumors in rats.  This is why I refer to soda as, “Cancer in a Can”.

You also have to beware of the BPA that is leaching into the soda from the can and the caramel coloring.

There are so many other ways to hydrate that are healthy and non life threatening.  Plus just walking around with pure refreshing water with some fresh slices of fruit in it like lime and lemon slices or orange slices and mint leaves looks so Hollywood.  You will make all your friends jealous.  Try to stop for a month, two weeks, even one week and see the difference in your skin, weight and mood.  Stop for life and you may prevent a lot of health issues down the road.
