I drink a green smoothie twice a day….every day! I have a standard smoothie but I do add different things from time to time.
About 16 to 20 ounces of purified water
1 organic apple
1 to 2 large handfuls of organic spinach
3 to 4 large leaves of organic kale
Wash everything and put in Vitamix (or other blender) in order listed, turn on low and increase speed and then put on high until well blended. I pour into 2 mason jars (there is something earthy about drinking greens out of a mason jar) and tightly seal one and put in the fridge for later and drink the other one down….yummy!
I do throw in other stuff, usually whatever I see in the fridge or lying around in front of me as I’m getting my greens, apple and banana. Below is a list of items I will put in, but usually only 1 or 2 other items at a time. I don’t like to drastically change the taste.
Kiwi, Mango, Pineapple, Peach, Grapes, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries,
Avocado (yes it is a fruit)
Celery, Carrots, Swiss chard, Cucumber, Dandelion greens, Romaine
Flax seeds, Coconut oil, Acai powder, Maca powder
The list is endless you just have to experiment. Some things I found I don’t like in my smoothies:
Fruit juice (makes it to sweet)
Nut milk (gives it a weird taste)
Sprouts (I prefer them other ways)
Chia seeds (thickens the smoothie too much)
Note: A Vitamix will make a very smoothie and creamy smoothie. All other blenders may make the smoothie chunky or gritty. If you need to invest in one kitchen item I would consider a Vitamix. Every time I even say the name I feel like the heavens are opening and celestial music is playing…..I love it that much!
