My Go-To Green Smoothie

I drink a green smoothie twice a day….every day!  I have a standard smoothie but I do add different things from time to time.

Basic ingredients

About 16 to 20 ounces of purified water

1 organic apple

1 banana

1 to 2 large handfuls of organic spinach

3 to 4 large leaves of organic kale

Directions

Wash everything and put in Vitamix (or other blender) in order listed, turn on low and increase speed and then put on high until well blended.  I pour into 2 mason jars (there is something earthy about drinking greens out of a mason jar) and tightly seal one and put in the fridge for later and drink the other one down….yummy!

I do throw in other stuff, usually whatever I see in the fridge or lying around in front of me as I’m getting my greens, apple and banana.  Below is a list of items I will put in, but usually only 1 or 2 other items at a time.  I don’t like to drastically change the taste.

 Fruits

Kiwi, Mango, Pineapple, Peach, Grapes, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries,

Avocado (yes it is a fruit)

Veggies

Celery, Carrots, Swiss chard, Cucumber, Dandelion greens, Romaine

Extras

Flax seeds, Coconut oil, Acai powder, Maca powder

The list is endless you just have to experiment.  Some things I found I don’t like in my smoothies:

Fruit juice (makes it to sweet)

Nut milk (gives it a weird taste)

Sprouts (I prefer them other ways)

Chia seeds (thickens the smoothie too much)

Note:  A Vitamix will make a very smoothie and creamy smoothie.  All other blenders may make the smoothie chunky or gritty.  If you need to invest in one kitchen item I would consider a Vitamix.  Every time I even say the name I feel like the heavens are opening and celestial music is playing…..I love it that much!

Happy Eating

  1. I love learning new green smoothie recipes as well as healthy smoothies that are low in calories but fine in “good fats”,ex.avocados, raw almonds, etc.
Please give me some more tasty options. I’ve always been an athlete and started out in Nutrition/Dietetics at Auburn Univ. then let one Prof.discourage me so I switched to Apparel Merch./Business minor but grew up personal training and making meal plans out for friends/fam-prob.could’ve made great money since Health and Fitness mags.were looking at me as well. I let a bad breakup get to me and neglected myself as far as my diligent, competitive althletic nature…to a degree. Thank goodness, I have excellent muscle memory so it doesn’t take too long for my body to get back into shape. I definitely want to get my Certification for Nutrition through Integrative Nutrition online b/c I’ve heard it’s a wonderful institution to obtain a degree. Also I’ve had my ACE Personal Training books for years and want to accomplish both of these in order to combine these related fields because Health/Wellness has always been and will continue to be my Main Passion in life, not only to help inspire myself, friends& family but especially to inspire everyone that needs it. I want to make a successful career of this and knew that I could(as did many others) so what is your feedback on this subject plus the tiny details I’ve given y’all to go on?!??

    • Smoothie recipes are out there by the hundreds (maybe thouhsands)…just google healthy smoothies or raw smoothies or go to the web sites I suggested for the chia and quinoa recipes. They are a great way to pack a lot of nutrition in one glass. I wish you the best with your ventures and commend you on following through with your passion and desire to help yourself and others. I’ve heard great things about Integrative Nutrition’s program. Good Luck!
